GATE 2025 Exam Pattern

GATE is an entrance exam for admissions into postgraduate engineering courses for the academic year 2025-2025. The GATE 2025 examination will be conducted for 29 papers (subjects). A candidate can appear for only one of the 29 GATE papers. The examination for all the papers will be conducted in an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. GATE 2025 Exam is scheduled to be conducted on the 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th of February 2025.

GATE 2025 Exam Duration

All the papers of the GATE 2025 examination will be for 3 hours duration and they consist of 65 questions for a total of 100 marks. Since the examination is an ONLINE computer-based test, at the end of the stipulated time (3 hours), the computer will automatically close the screen inhibiting any further action.

Multiple Choice Questions

1. These are objective-type questions which contain four options out of which the candidate has to choose/mark the correct answer(s). Each question carries either 1 or 2 marks in all papers and sections.
2. There is NEGATIVE marking for these questions. For 1 mark question, 1/3 marks will be deducted and for 2 mark question, 2/3 mark will be deducted.

Numerical Answer Questions

1. There are no options given for these questions.
2. An answer is a real number which is to be entered by the candidate only using the virtual keypad.  Each question carries either 1 or 2 marks in all papers and sections.
3. No NEGATIVE marking for these questions.

General Aptitude

Every paper consists of a section of General Aptitude with 15 marks.

For papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI and TF

Note: Technical 70 marks and Engineering Mathematics 15 marks

For papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA and PH

GG Paper

1. General Aptitude.
2. Part A - common for all candidates
3. Part B: Candidates can choose either Section I or Section II

a) Section I: Geology

b) Section II: Geophysics

 XE Paper

1. General Aptitude
2. Engineering Mathematics – Section A (Compulsory)
3. Any two sections from B to H

 XL Paper

1. General Aptitude
2. Chemistry – Section P (Compulsory)
3. Any two sections from B to H
