JEE Main Reservation Criteria 2025

JEE Main 2025 reservation criteria have been prescribed by NTA, the exam conducting body, on the basis of which admissions will be conducted in the participating institutes. Candidates belonging to the Other Backward class (Non-Creamy Layer), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Person with Disability (PwD) with 40% or more disability fall under the reserved category and are allotted seats as per JEE Main reservation of seats 2025.

The reservation criteria of JEE Main 2025 also include criteria related to the home state quota and other state quotas based on which admission is offered by the participating institutes. To claim seats under the reserved category, candidates have to produce valid documents at the time of JEE Main counselling and the seat allotment process. JEE Main reservation of seats is done for candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD candidates. The percentage of seats reserved for candidates belonging to each category is given below in the table:

JEE Main Reservation Criteria 2025 for Premier Engineering Institutes

There is different reservation criteria for different participating institutes of JEE Main. The reservation criteria for all of them are mentioned below.

IITs – Indian Institutes of Technology or IITs offer admission for all categories on an All India Quota basis.

NITs – National Institutes of Technology or NITs offer admission for 50% of seats on a Home State Quota basis and for the remaining 50% of seats on an Other State Quota basis.

Home State Quota* – Candidates belonging to the particular state where an NIT is located come under the home state quota.

Other State Quota – Candidates belonging to any state and applying for admission to NITs other than their home state come under another state quota.

* For states and union territories without an NIT, the Home State quota will be considered in the NITs mentioned below.

JEE Main Reservation of Seats 2025- Home state and another state quota

In addition to the JEE Main reservation of seats mentioned above, seats for academic programs offered by NITs, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, and Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur are divided into the following two quotas:

Home State (HS) quota- The Home State quota will be applicable for candidates who have passed class 12 or equivalent examinations from the state in which the institute allotted to students for admission is situated.

Other States (OS) quota- It includes all the states and union territories except the home state/ home union territory.

  1. Home State (HS) Quota - 50%
  2. Other State (OS) Quota - 50%

Instructions to claim JEE Main 2025 Reservation of Seats

  • Mention category details- Candidates must mention the details of their categories in the JEE Main 2025 application form.
  • Submission of documents- At the time of JEE Main counselling 2025, candidates have to submit valid category certificates for verification.
  • Failure in producing category certificates- In case, candidates fail to produce the required documents they will be allocated seats under the General category.

  • Category certificate duly issued by the competent authority in a prescribed format.
  • PwD candidates need to have a disability certificate.
  • Home state category candidates need to have a domicile.
