WBJEE 2025 Exam Pattern

WBJEE Exam Pattern is set by West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board (WBJEEB). The state-level exam is conducted in 2 slots meaning Paper I i.e. Mathematics is conducted in the morning and Paper II i.e. Physics and Chemistry is conducted in the afternoon. This article will help candidates understand important elements related to the test pattern of WBJEE viz. nature of questions, marking scheme, section-wise marks distribution, the total number of questions, etc. For this year, the official dates for WBJEE 2025 were released at wbjee.nic.in.

WBJEE 2025 Exam Pattern

  • WBJEEB conducts OMR (Optical Mark Recognition/Reading) based common entrance examination for admission into Undergraduate courses in Engineering and Technology, Pharmacy, and Architecture of different Universities, Government Colleges as well as Self-Financing & Technological Institutes in the State of West Bengal for the academic year 2025-26. WB JEE will be held only once in a year.
  • WB JEE 2025 will be conducted on 30.04.2025 (subject to change due to exceptional circumstances) and consists of 2 (two) Papers. Paper 1 (Mathematics) will be conducted on 30.04.2025 from 11.00 AM to 01.00 PM.  Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry) will be conducted on the same day (30.04.2025) from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM.
  • Candidates who are appearing for both Paper-1 and Paper-2 are eligible for both General Merit Rank (GMR) as well as Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) and they are considered for admission to all the courses. However, candidates appearing only in Paper-2 are eligible for PMR only and they are not considered for admission to Pharmacy Courses only (except in Jadavpur University).  Candidates appearing only for Paper-1 are not eligible for any rank and consequently not eligible for admission to any course.
  • All Questions will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) with four options against each question. Candidates are required to indicate their answer to every question by darkening the appropriate circle completely with a blue/black ballpoint pen. Any other kind of marking shall lead to a wrong/partial/ambiguous reading of the response and no marks will be awarded for a such an answer.
  • There will be 3 (three) Categories of questions in each subject. Under Category 1, every correct answer carries 1 mark each with a negative marking of ¼ for every wrong answer. Under Category 2, each right answer carries 2 marks each with a negative marking of ½ for every wrong answer.  Under Category 3, every right answer carries 2 marks each, with no negative marking for wrong answers.

  • Aspirants interested in Engineering/Technology/Architecture Courses need to appear in both Paper I and Paper-II is compulsory.
  • For admission to the Pharmacy Course of Jadavpur University, appearing in both Paper-I and Paper-II is compulsory
  • For admission to any Pharmacy Course other than that of Jadavpur University, appearing in mathematics is not compulsory. Score in ‘Physics + Chemistry’ (paper-II)only shall be considered.
  • Students appearing in both Paper-I and Paper-II are also eligible for admission to the Pharmacy course

  •  In Category I: Only one answer option is correct
  •  In Category II: Only one answer option is correct
  •  In Category III: One or more answer options are correct

Category 1

  • Only one option is correct, the correct response yield one mark.
  • The incorrect response will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks
  • For any combination of responses with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks.

Category 2

  • Only one option is correct, the correct response yield two marks.
  • The incorrect response will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks
  • For any combination of responses with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks

 Category 3

  • One or more options may be correct. Only all Correct responses will yield 2(two) marks
  • Any combination of correct and wrong responses will be treated as incorrect and will yield 0 (zero) mark.
  • For partially correct response, marks awarded will be = 2 x (no. of correct options marked ? total no. of correct options)
