IBSAT 2025 – Counselling

The IBSAT 2025 counselling process is a crucial step for candidates who qualify the IBSAT exam or hold valid scores in exams such as CAT, XAT, NMAT by GMAC, or GMAT. The counselling procedure is designed to assess the overall profile of candidates, including their communication skills, analytical abilities, and personality traits, to ensure the best fit for admission to the ICFAI Business Schools (IBS). The following is an extended article outlines the counselling procedure, schedule, components, and selection criteria.

  1. Eligibility for Counselling: Candidates must first clear the IBSAT 2025 cut off marks or have valid scores in equivalent exams (CAT, XAT, NMAT, GMAT) to be eligible for the counselling rounds. After the exam results are declared, shortlisted candidates will be invited for the IBSAT counselling process.
  2. Counselling Format and Stages: The IBSAT 2025 counselling comprises two main stages which are described below.
  • Micro Presentation (MP):Replacing the earlier group discussion round, the micro presentation tests candidates' communication and quick-thinking skills. Candidates select a topic from options provided on the spot and prepare for 1 minute, followed by delivering a 3-minute presentation. This brief presentation evaluates clarity of expression, organization of thoughts, confidence, and subject understanding.
  • Personal Interview (PI):This is a 5 – 7 minute one-on-one interview with panel members at IBS campuses. The panel assesses candidates' interpersonal skills, confidence, attitude, aspirations, clarity of thought, communication ability, and aptitude for management careers.

IBSAT 2025 Counselling Schedule and Venues:

  • The IBSAT 2025 counselling will usually begin in mid-February 2026, after the declaration of exam results and merit list.
  • Selection briefing sessions are conducted first, where the entire counselling and selection process is explained to the candidates, and their queries are addressed. Candidates can choose their preferred venue, date, and time for the briefing.
  • Counselling and selection activities (MP and PI) are organized in multiple cities, including IBS campuses in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurgaon, Dehradun, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, among others.
  • The detailed schedule will be communicated to shortlisted candidates via official notifications.

Document Verification:

Candidates must bring original documents and photocopies for verification during counselling. Typical required documents include:

  • IBSAT scorecard or valid CAT/XAT/NMAT/GMAT score proof
  • Graduation degree certificates and mark sheets
  • Proof of reserved category, if applicable
  • Photo ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN card, passport, etc.)
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Any other documents specified by IBS

Final Selection:

The final admission is based on a composite score derived by weighting the candidate's academic record, IBSAT (or equivalent) score, performance in the micro presentation, and personal interview. The seat allotment depends on merit and availability at the chosen campuses.

Key Features of IBSAT 2025 Counselling:

  • Candidates shortlisted based on their scores in IBSAT 2025, or through CAT, NMAT by GMAC™, XAT, or GMAT™ (from 2023 onwards), will be invited for the selection process starting in the second week of February, 2025.
  • The selection process includes two components: Micro Presentation and Personal Interview.
  • Micro Presentation: In this part of the process, a candidate will be assessed on their ability to think, organize their thoughts, and communicate effectively. Candidates will be given 1 minute to prepare and 3 minutes to speak on a general topic assigned to them randomly.
  • Personal Interview: The interview lasts about 5 to 7 minutes and is conducted by a panel that evaluates the candidate’s attitude, clarity of thought, communication skills, awareness of current affairs, and overall readiness for a career in management.
  • Admission decision: Final selection is based on past academic performance, along with performance in the Micro Presentation and Personal Interview.
