It was established in 2018 by the Shri Khushal Das University Act passed by the Rajasthan State Legislature. The university is named after the famous philanthropist and social worker Shri Khushal Das Ji Lohar, who worked towards the welfare of society.

Shri Khushal Das University has been recognized by the UGC (the University Grants Commission). It has been recognized by BCI (the Bar Council of India) and PCI (the Pharmacy Council of India).
