It was established in 2016, the institute started functioning from a temporary campus, previously the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) in Belur Industrial Area, on the outskirts of Dharwad city. The main campus, spread across 470 acres, is under construction, and a permanent building is being developed at Chikkamaligawad village.
