Approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Central University of Karnataka was founded in 2009. The Kalaburagi Parliament Act, formerly known as the Gulbarga Parliament Act, established the university. The university was also part of the universities started during the 11th UGC plan period by the Indian government.
Situated close to Kadaganchi village in Kalaburagi, the university campus spans over 654 acres along the Gulbarga-Washdhari Interstate route. Ten schools of excellence, three multidisciplinary centres, and 27 academic departments are all located within the university.
Courses in Arts, Management, Humanities, Engineering, and Sciences are offered by the institution. It offers courses such as UG(BBA, BA, BEd, BTech, BSc Regular, BSC Honors, etc.) and PG (MSW, MA, MCom, MSc, MA, MBA, LLM, MTech, MCA, etc.) courses. The institution also offers doctoral and research programs. The university provides an MPhil and 17 PhD streams.

The Central University of Karnataka (CUK) in Gulbarga, Karnataka, is known for its extensive and well-maintained infrastructure facilities. Some of the key infrastructure facilities available at CUK include:
Hostel- On campus, the university offers two large, well-equipped separate residence halls for boys and girls. There are now two hostel buildings being built. Every hostel has access to free Wi-Fi for the internet.
Computer Center- The needs of numerous academic departments and university divisions are met by the computer centre. The creation and upkeep of an IT environment supporting the pursuit of academic achievement is the goal of the Computer Center at CUK. The center's main goal is to offer services that encourage and support faculty, staff, and administration in using new computing technologies. The campus's computer centre oversees several IT-based communication and computing resources.
Medical Facility- The University has a regular senior doctor and a lady doctor on campus who provide health treatment to all of the students, faculty, and non-teaching staff. They are supported by a lab technician and nurse.
Banking Facility- Canara Bank, which operates out of a separate building, has supplied the university with a specialized banking facility on campus. The bank has established two ATM locations on the university campus: one is close to the bank, and the other is by the administrative building.
Post- Office- A post office has been erected on the university campus by India Post. The Post Office specifically provides the following helpful services to students: Savings Bank (equipped with an ATM card reader and checkbook), Accounts for Recurring Deposits (minimum of Rs. 50) etc.
