The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission under sections 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It is the first and only National Law University in Kerala and one of the 23 NLUs in India. Previously known as the National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), NUALS is ranked 11th in India for law studies by India Today.
NUALS Kochi offers undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, postgraduate, and doctoral courses, including BA.LLB (H), PGD, LLM, and Ph.D., with various specializations. The candidate for CLAT shall have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate examination (10+2) or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least 45 % marks.
Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) in Kerala are given an exemption of up to 5% from the minimum requirement of 45% in the qualifying examination. Similarly, candidates from Socially and Educationally Backward Classes in Kerala receive an exemption of up to 3%. These categories can apply for CLAT if they secure at least 40% and 42% of marks, respectively, in the qualifying examination.

A candidate must have completed the 5-year Integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree from the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) or an equivalent examination, with at least 50% of the total marks in aggregate. For SC/ST candidates eligible for reservation in the State of Kerala, the minimum required marks are 45%.

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies - Scholarship
NUALS offers government-based scholarships to students from backward communities such as SC and ST, based on their merit and financial needs. Additionally, there is the NK Nambiar scholarship for students from low-income groups. Apart from this, there are IDIA scholarships as well. IDIA is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that supports the student community. Eligible students can apply for these scholarships through the official website of the institute.

The placement cell at NUALS Kochi assists final-year students with their placements. It includes faculty members and student representatives who organize various pre-placement activities such as workshops, seminars, guest lectures, industrial visits, group discussions, mock interviews, and soft-skills training to prepare students for placements.
For the placement process, the cell invites companies to the campus for recruitment. Library- The NUALS Law Library is an excellent resource for legal materials. In addition to 13,420 law books, students can access online legal resources such as Manupatra, HeinOnline, J Stor, Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, and SCC Online. The library also has an online catalogue, making book lending easy.
Moot Court- The Moot Court Hall, located in the Academic Block, is large, spacious, and well-furnished with a surround-sound speaker system and witness stands. NUALS has a strong mooting culture, with numerous teams representing the university at top-grade Moot Court Competitions and bringing laurels to the university. The university also hosts three annual moots, in addition to the Intra College Moots.
Seminar Hall- The Seminar Hall at NUALS has hosted many eminent individuals for inauguration ceremonies and seminars. It is air-conditioned, well-furnished, and equipped with a Bose sound system.
Wi-Fi- Wi-Fi is available to all students upon receiving their roll numbers and passwords to access the NUALS network. The campus has a high-speed optic-fibre connection and is fully Wi-Fi connected.
Hostel- The university campus is located at Kinfra Hi-tech Park, H.M.T. Colony, and has separate hostel blocks for girls and boys. The hostels consist of triple occupancy rooms with attached bathrooms. Each inmate is provided with a separate cot, table, and cupboard. Each hostel has a common room and a mess hall, with provisions for indoor games like caroms, chess, and badminton.
